You mean Shepherding a Child’s Heart? On the most basic level, I don’t think it delivers what it promises. It privileges a shepherding metaphor for parenting but expresses a rank antagonism between parent and child by referring to “winning battles” and such. There’s no such antagonism in the parenting values described in Scripture, and in fact, Paul commands us to not exasperate our children. Any shepherd who’s at war with his dumb sheep is a pretty lousy shepherd.
I wish that book didn’t enjoy the monopoly it does in our circles. I find it inconsistent in many areas. This is just the big one.
