Camille,
You were my teacher for "freshman" speech when I was in my last semester of my senior year (the first semester of the 2003-2004 school year). You were big and preggo and I was completely "over" BJU and Fundamentalism. ;) I just found your site and have been reading through your blog for the past few weeks. I didn't exactly know where to post all my thoughts, so I figured I'd start here. This is one of the posts that resonated with me most as a parent who is decidedly AP. I hadn't been in Fundamentalist circles for about 3 years before I went to BJU and haven't been in them since I graduated. Recently, a former BJU roommate of my wife said something condescending about how unbiblical it is for those in the "world" to "distract" their children instead of disciplining them. Their son is only three months old, yet they choose to physically discipline! He has no idea what the difference in right and wrong is - he only has basic needs. After a heated exchange, and plenty of hoity-toity holier-than-thou condescension they both agreed to disagree (the phrase "I'll be praying for you" makes me want to punch people in the face in situations like that). I eventually found your site after I was searching online for various aspects of the dangers of fundamentalism. Anyhow, it's good to find that a former professor is an AP person. I also appreciate that you've woken up to what fundamentalism really is. Feel free to email me if you want...you should have my address from this post.

Dr. Lewis,

You might be interested in a seven-year-old discussion thread that still can be found online. It's at Delphi Forums, particularly the BJU Gathering Place forum. You'll find it under the category of "Biblical Discussion." The thread was started by me and is labeled "corporal punishment."

If you keep looking around, I think that you'll find that fundamentalism itself is much bigger than the (admittedly large) slice with which you've conflicted.

$.56??? I am curious to know how to pull that off! My MIL just bought some pretty fabric to make me a reversible ring sling after I tried on a $120 version at a "posh" boutique. Yeah, $120. There's a reason the brand is called "rock star baby", or something similar; that's who can afford it. Anyway, I remember reading about your slings way back then, but would you mind directing me to the links of those posts?

What are your favorite fabrics to use?

Thank you for sharing your story. I was blessed to read it, and could relate on so many levels. I found it linked via Leslie's blog, and have in turn linked it myself. I am so grateful that our Lord has blessed you with your miracle baby, and led you so graciously down this path.
blessings to you and yours~
