Hundreds of Hours of Brain-Numbing Classic TV
Did you know that there are scores of old TV shows available online… legitimately? We all know that you can come up with plenty of grainy YouTube videos, but the results can be kind of spotty (heh — no pun in ten did).
There’s evidently a move afoot among television distributors who are making their libraries of classic shows available online for free. Here’s just a sampling of some of the ones that push buttons in our household (some listed solely for their incredibly high kitsch quotient and in no particular order):
Emergency
Fame
Fantasy Island
Flipper
I Dream of Jeannie
I Spy
The Incredible Hulk
Land of the Giants
The Partridge Family
Lost In Space
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
The Time Tunnel
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
Star Trek: TOS
Gumby
The Jetsons
The Man from U. N. C. L. E.
Mr. Peabody and Mr. Sherman
Scooby Doo
The Three Stooges
Tom and Jerry
The Addams Family
Fractured Fairy Tales
MacGyver
I Love Lucy
Looney Tunes
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
Arrested Development

VD is for Everybody
My childhood was influenced in no small part by the feel-good advertisements of the 1970s. Anyone old enough to remember those years still has those catchy advertising tunes floating around in our heads today. One little reminder and the whole era comes rushing back in a flood of brown-and-rust plaids, elephant bellbottoms, and macrame wall hangings.
Coke: “Buy the World a Coke”

McDonald’s “You Deserve a Break Today”
Dr. Pepper: “Be a Pepper”

There was evidently one ad from that era that escaped me, though. How’d I miss it?

A Chicken in Every Pot
I don’t know how this little fryer crawled out of his soup pot, but I bet he’ll be one tasty little morsel once he cooks up all nice-n-tender-like.

Up and Then Down: The Lives of Elevators
This is a lengthy article from the New Yorker, but it’s absolutely fascinating… at least if you have a thing for (or against) elevators:
