When Chet dropped his nap we introduced "room time" instead. It's the one time of day that he needs to go play in his room on his own. We would schedule it during Hettie Ruth's nap so that we still got a little time to regroup.
Chet is such a people person that he hates the idea of it, but once he gets in there and starts to play on his own he gets so creative with setting up his rescue scenes or battles - I know it's been really good for him.

I can identify with the bug obsession. David (4) has adopted a young vinegaroon and a praying mantis. He hunts food for them nightly. We've also been foster parents to several jumping spiders. I'm just hoping we don't find any scorpions or rattlesnakes (as have two families that live near us).

Yes, yes, yes. . . . storytime. It was fun! My SIL did the B&N one too. I wouldn't want a salespitch though when I go. Do they do that?

Now Seattle. That story time must have some killer coffee for the kids, right?

Am I the only one who finds them creepy. It must be because when we found one the big boy (my husband) put a little frog in the big giant jar we had the Mantis in. Ugh...it attacked and ripped that frog to pieces.

Those things are dangerous...I get the willies just thinking about them.

I'm wondering if that is what you are talking about, too.

I still haven't caught one and our library is so close now. I'll have to work on it this week since summer is through.

I really, really need to get to the Library in downtown Seattle. We were there awhile back and the children's area has it's own theater and I really want to know what goes on in there http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/pacificnw/2004/0425/cover.html...I realize I have no idea how to insert a link here...so that's all you are going to get of my little slice of heaven.

Are you talking about reading time at the library? I can't wait till I can go to those! Barnes and Noble also has a good reading time for kids every week (sometimes twice a week). You should swing by and ask for a schedule--it will tell you dates, times, and even what book they'll be reading. The one on Woodruff Road has an excellent children's department manager (I used to to work there).
