{"id":354,"date":"2006-08-16T15:48:40","date_gmt":"2006-08-16T19:48:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.drslewis.org\/camille\/?p=354"},"modified":"2006-08-16T15:48:40","modified_gmt":"2006-08-16T19:48:40","slug":"as-we-begin-the-new-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.drslewis.org\/camille\/2006\/08\/16\/as-we-begin-the-new-year\/","title":{"rendered":"As we begin the new year. . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>There is a proper legal relationship between the parent and the child.\u00a0 But that does not mean that when the proper legal relationship is in order, everything is perfect.\u00a0 Far from it.\u00a0 Although my child is honoring me, the parent-child relationship may not have come to full fruition.\u00a0 The children are to love the parents, and the parents are to love the children on a personal level, within the legal framework, and once we see this, we understand all that follows.\u00a0 This is a relationship of office, but between fellow human beings.\u00a0 If we could learn this, we would stop seeing the tragedy of poor parent-child relationships.\u00a0 My child, while he is still a minor, is my fellow creature created on my own level; I am not intrinsically higher than he is.\u00a0 For a certain number of years there is to be this other relationship of office, but I am never to forget, as I look at my child, even when I hold that child in my own arms, that that child is a creature, created on my own level.\u00a0 And more than this, if he becomes a Christian while he is my minor child, I must not forget that then he is not only my fellow creature, but he is also my brother or my sister in Christ.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And the child is not just to have the proper legal attitude toward the parents; he is to work for a personal relationship to them, in love.\u00a0 Anything less than the personal relationship between the parent and the child is not only wrong; it is full of sorrow.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"right\">Francis Shaeffer, <em>True Spirituality<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a proper legal relationship between the parent and the child.\u00a0 But that does<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2,14,21],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-354","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-faith","category-family","category-think"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
