Thank you for the world so sweet.
\nThank you for the food we eat.
\nThank you for the birds that sing.
\nThank you God for everything. Amen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sometimes we pray that before dinner. To get the kids involved in the praying. Last night the boys were silent as Mommy and Daddy recited, and Daddy quipped, “Well? What happened? Do you think God could hear that?”<\/p>\n

Quickly, Isaac retorted, “Yes, nothing can be hid from God.”<\/p>\n

Score one for Question 12!<\/p>\n

We’re still plodding along on our Catechism Quest. We’re on Question 36, and while Gavin still sounds like Barney Fife<\/a> most days, we’re getting it. Slowly but surely. Gavin calls the “covenant of works” the “covenant of HOMEwork.” And he asks for motions for each question. The hardest ones so far have been Q28-30 on sin:<\/p>\n

Q. 28. What is Sin?
\nA. Sin is any want of conformity unto, or transgression of the law of God.<\/p>\n

\n

Q. 29. What is meant by want of conformity?
\nA. Not being or doing what God requires.<\/p>\n

\n

Q. 30. What is meant by transgression?
\nA. Doing what God forbids.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That language is pretty hard to feel<\/em> at 5 and 7yo. “Want<\/em> of”?<\/p>\n

We tried showing them the picture in the little book.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And that just reminds Gavin to say, “Sin is a doggie sleeping or a girl saying no to a kitty.” Not quite.<\/p>\n

These need a rewrite. There’s always “We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done.”\u00a0But, for now, we’ve shorted them all to:<\/p>\n

Sin is not<\/em> doing what God says you’re supposed to or doing what God says you’re not<\/em> supposed to.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
