I’m done with Wal-mart!

For a few weeks now, I’ve tried a really close and nice grocery store and Target instead of that horrible soul-sucking trip to Wal-mart. I think I’m done with that store. D-U-N, done! The cost is the same or lower at the regular stores, there are more specials, the stores are clean, the shelves are loaded, and the clerks actually speak to you. I think I get less over-stimulated, and so does Isaac.

I’ve been a pretty habitual shopper there for too long. See ya, Wal-mart. I’m not going to let the door hit me on the way out.

  1. I can’t remember the last time I set foot in our local Wal-mart… I think the last time I was in a Wal-mart period was because I needed to go to the bathroom really badly and it was the first place with a bathroom that we stumbled upon… I can’t stand shopping there… It’s so much more pleasant to buy things at Target and one of the other grocery stores. Sometimes I might pay a few bucks more, but that’s fine with me for a more enjoyable shopping experience.. plus it seems like anything you buy at Wal-mart breaks or has something go wrong with it shortly after…

  2. I completely agree. I make a once-a-month stock-up run to buy things I KNOW are much cheaper at Wal-Mart (even on sale at the other places) and feel guilty buying elsewhere. Everything is non-perishable or frozen so that makes it easy to avoid for my regular trips. I grocery shop AT LEAST twice a week (Kate likes to get out and I follow the sales) and even that 1 out of every 10-15 stops that happens at Wal-Mart makes me sad and depressed.

  3. i am a new hater of wal mart because of my recent car accident in the parking lot. i’ve begun blaming everything in my life that goes wrong on sam walton: he, the bill gates, of all things retail….

    grrrr.

  4. If I had the option, I’d be right there with you. Unfortunately, here, the prices really are a lot higher at the smaller stores and I can’t afford any different.

  5. I really dislike visiting Wal-mart as well… and similar stores like Meijer’s because I just get overwhelemed and frustrated because they are so big and often disorganized. I actually visited K-Mart recently and was pleasantly surprised at how clean and organized it was- and it was an older store too. Target is usually pretty good as well.

  6. Yup. Went in Walmart once when we got back from overseas. And walked right out. It was too loud, brash, crowded. And as you said, soul-sucking. Best way to describe it.
