How Sweet It Is!

  1. I love pets! Our dog left us, we had to euthanize him, in November 81. One of my greatest regrets has been ‘not’ replacing him. Young son T. said to me,shortly after, “Mommy, ever since Hyde died, everything has been going wrong!” And believe me, at the time it really was. I had a terrible nervous breakdown in 82. Such a dark valley that was! But God’s Grace has been with our family, and ‘all is well with us today.” Now we just have four footed furry creatures called ‘cats’. My husband believes that God gave cats a purr to make up for their claws!” Charlie came home with us from the animal shelter, less than two days after we had to say ‘another goodbye’ which was to his predecessor, Obadiah. I still miss Oby. He not only liked people food, he liked eating anything that looked interesting! He would chase me down when I tried to get into my room with an evening snack, and it was a wrestle with the door thing to get ‘in there’ before he did. He wanted some of it too. Charlie is such a character too. But I think he’s a bit ‘retarded’ as a cat! He doesn’t like people food snacks, and he doesn’t like cat nip. The last time I was ‘chasing him’ aggressively around the living room and the downstairs, I was trying to concentrate on a very deep spiritual book, and he wouldn’t stop bothering me. He wanted to play and I was ‘being too serious!’ I think that’s why we really do need pets. We’re too damn serious! So chasing him this time, I tripped over the stupid ‘cat scratcher’ platform, which he doesn’t like either! And boy, was I ever mad at him, when I pretended and yelled at him, “This is all your fault!” And he he stared at me gloating for a few seconds as if he was enjoying the scene!! Now I just chase him up or down the stairs, and he tries to ‘beat’ me to the master bed room, where, once he jumps up to the safety of the Queen sized mattress, where he’s in ‘neutral territory,’ and “I’m supposed to leave him alone, which I don’t. He finally comes in now to watch tv with us at night, and we have succeeded in ‘brainwashing him’ into being sociable. But he still doesn’t like cat nip. We’re giving away the cat scratching post. He’s a real pal. I love pets. Thanks for posting the pets thing. Writing about pets really brings back such happy memories as well as such gratitude for God’s healing love for when we’ve had to say ‘goodbye’ to them. If God never misses when a little sparrow falls to the ground, imagine how He feels when we say goodbye to a dear pet who has been with us for so many years of happy times and fond memories! “It’s 10 o’clock in the evening! Do you know where your Tabby is?” Barbara
