Okay. I admit that I’ve been spending too much time on www.babynames.com. And I believe that I’ve discovered the names that are absolutely out of the question for us. Mind you, you have to combine many of them with our last name to get the full effect. But seriously, who would torture their child by naming them “Ajax” or “Modesty” or “Zero”? Zero?
All of these but five are actually listed there at babynames or iVillage. Can you find the fake names?

Are they all spread out (hard to find!) or all in a row (possibly findable)?
I’d guess that “unique” is not a real name.
it would be terrible to be named “obedience.”
sounds like a doug phillips choice, tho . . .
i’m guessing massachussetts.
We had a kid in our youth group a couple of years back whose name was Nimrod (I kid you not). He went by Rod in public…but his given name was Nimrod (and I believe he was the third!) Why do people do that to their kids?
It can’t be unique, cause I know someone named Unique Reality — no joke. I have also heard of someone named Vagina (but it was pronounced VA-Gina). I also know someone named Semaj, it is James spelled backwards. 🙂 Isn’t naming babies fun! 🙂
“Obedience” sounds like a Puritan name – like Patience, or Prudence. I wonder if Longsuffering was a name?
The ones I added were:
Beaver
Doctor
Finster
Lucifer
Mister
Pickles
Provost
OKay. That’s seven. I can’t count.
vesper is our next girls name…
::sheepish::
my midwife named her son (after he was 7 months old) yram. its mary, her mom, backwards. they pronounce it yer-im.
veeery interesting, eh…
(((meggan))) — you kinda have to know the history with us for that to be a non-choice. We’ve got a special concert every other week on Sunday around here called “Vespers.” It would be like naming your child “Concert” or “Play” for us. 😀
