Well, not yet. But almost.
I’ve never labored outside of the hospital, so this is all new. They say if walking doesn’t make them go away and then if resting doesn’t make them go away, they are real. Well, these are real. When I walk, they HURT. When I rest, they are there.
The doc checked and said, “Yup, you’re in very early labor.” I said, “But that could go on for weeks, right?” He said with a chuckle, “Let’s hope not. More like days.”
No. . . . DAYS? NO. . . . I’ve still got to clean the house.
So we stopped at Target for some last minute nesting. Kleenex, shampoo, coffee, napkins, baby socks, and burp clothes. And a pretty dotty tablecloth. Who could resist that, right?
Came home, and our just-spayed Sugar had pooed in her crate. Doh! So she and her crate innards needed scrubbing. Isaac needed scrubbing too. I did the inanimate washing; Grant washed everything animate. And boy! were they animate.
Then I cleaned up the purple room in case Grandma and Grandpa have to spend the night with Isaac. Put the Fisher Price away. Stored the too big or too warm or too small clothes. Found the newborn stuff. Set side for laundering. Finished wrapping Isaac’s presents so he’s remembered too. A Jacob’s ladder. An outdoor ring toss game. And a Fuzzy Pumper Barber Shop.
Found a dog pee spot. Cleaned it up. And set to work on the laundry again. Put away the Target purchases. Laid out my pretty tablecloth.
Now what? Gavin, darlin’, you gotta give me a little time. I really need to:
* Get a hair cut.
* Cut Isaac’s hair.
* Finish the editing of chapters 6 & 7.
That’s the bare minimum. I’d *like* to do a few other things. Sewing and what-not. But whatever.
Ouch! That hurts.

OOoooh! I want that tablecloth. I am such a polka dot girl these days.
Praying for you and thinking of you constantly!
Thinking of you. . . My strategy with early labor was to take a nap. Either way, the sleep would be beneficial. If I woke up and the contractions had mostly dissipated, it was a reminder to be patient and accept this as prepartory labor. If the contractions woke me up from my nap, well that was a sign to get ready for business!
Went to Target today and saw that tablecloth…thought of you and prayed. I’m so excited for you!!! I can’t wait!!! :o)
This is so special! It must have been wonderful having confidence that your next visit to the hospital would not disappoint you. You would definitely be coming home with a new member of the family. And there would be the four of you plus the doggie that peed on the carpet, and dropped a cookie in her basket. Our third son was almost a month overdue. Boy was I glad to deliver him! But he didn’t have a name for four days. We hadn’t picked a boy’s name, only a girl’s name. He was the baby with no name. Then Paul found the verse in Paul’s Epistle to Timothy,”To Timothy, my beloved son from Paul.” And said it would be Timothy. I said, ‘that’s it!’ And his middle name is Christopher. So number three son did go home with a name. But the aneastheologist missed his birth by fifteen minutes! Thanks a lot! Life is such a joy1
